Alex Hilton
I am a young woman, living in the Waikato. I am and always have been passionate about the arts including dance, fine arts and of course poetry. Outside of the arts I enjoy giving back to the community through various volunteer roles.
I write mainly for myself as an outlet and a way to get through the trials and tribulations life throws at me, but I also write in the hopes to have a positive impact on others.
Do you try more to be original, or to deliver to readers what they want?
I write what I need to write with the knowledge that at least one person will need to read it, to hear it.
What is it about your chosen genre that you love?
I love poetry as it gives me the opportunity to express aspects of myself I would otherwise not discuss.
What was the first book that made you cry?
My own.
If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do?
I don’t believe there is something I could have done differently, My work stems from my struggles and all the things I went through, irrespective of how I dealt with it at the time.
Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym? Why?
I considered it due to negative experiences that tainted my name in my mind. I wanted to seperate my work from those experiences and a pseudonym would provide a degree of distance but I decided not to so I could reclaim my name.
How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
I have 3 manuscripts that are yet to be finished. One will be completed and publish ready within the next few months and the other two are going to be completed over many years.
